Dr. Manny Alvarez, M.D., widely known to audiences as Dr. Manny, is one of the most popular contributors to the Fox News Channel, appearing regularly as a medical contributor on "Fox and Friends" and on "Fox News Live" and "Ask Dr. Manny". Alvarez joined Fox News Channel in 2005, initially providing his medical expertise during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Alvarez completed his Obstetrics/Gynecology and Anesthesiology residencies at St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey, as well as fellowships in Maternal Fetal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Board of Maternal Fetal Medicine, specializing in the care of high-risk pregnant patients, Dr. Manny went on to hold the positions of Associate Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He also worked as a health science reporter for TELEMUNDO, and developed a nightly news segment entitled "A Dose of Health," Since 1996, Dr. Manny has been the Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Science at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey. Additionally, Alvarez is Adjunct Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University School of Medicine.
Born in Cuba in 1957, Manny came to the United States during the Cuban Revolution. He was separated from his family as a young boy and sent to the United States to live with a foster family through an outreach program while his father was placed in a Cuban prison. After four years, Alvarez was reunited with his family in New York.
Dr. Manny is the author of two books, "The Checklist: What You and Your Family Need to Know to Prevent Disease" and "Live a Long and Healthy Life", which won two awards in May 2008 for both its Spanish and English editions. His most recent book is "The Hot Latin Diet: The Fast-Track Plan to a Bombshell Body". Dr. Manny and Chris are a great team, and they can often be seen together on the Fox Network as they roam the streets of NYC looking for exotic foods that also offer health benefits.
